Information We Collect

We collect information you provide or create while using Kharcho, including:

• Account details such as your email address, display name, and sign-in provider.
• Profile details you choose to add, such as profile pictures, UPI identifiers, bank account details, or payment QR codes.
• Group, personal tracker, invite, member, expense, payment, settlement, and chat information.
• Receipt images or other files you upload to the app.
• Terms acceptance version and time, your block list, and reports you submit, including the reported text or image, reason, details, and review history.
• Notification preferences and device or browser push notification tokens.
• Technical data needed to operate the app, such as authentication session data, logs, crash reports, and approximate device information.

How We Use Information

We use information to:

• Create and secure your account.
• Show your groups, expenses, balances, settlements, messages, and notifications.
• Process invites and group membership actions.
• Store uploaded receipts, profile pictures, and QR codes.
• Improve reliability, debug issues, prevent abuse, and understand app errors.
• Send transactional notifications related to account, group, invite, expense, settlement, and message activity.

Sharing

Group members can see information needed for the group, such as names, messages, expenses, balances, receipts, and payment details you add. People you invite to a personal tracker can see its expenses and add their own entries. We do not sell your personal information.

Reports and Safety

When you report content, we store the relevant text or image reference and your explanation so an authorized Lionster reviewer can assess it. This limited review access does not grant access to the group's full ledger or other uploaded files. Reports and block lists are not visible to other members. We use them to prevent abuse, enforce the community rules, and handle appeals.

Review records and privately retained removed content are kept as needed for enforcement and appeals, with their continued need reviewed by Lionster. Deleting an account removes its terms acceptance and block entries and reports involving it as reporter or reported account. Removal decisions about other people's content can remain in effect. Copies in backups follow the provider's retention periods. Contact us if a specific report contains information about you that needs review or deletion.

Service Providers

Kharcho uses third-party services to run the app, including Supabase for authentication, database, storage, and server functions, Firebase for push notifications and crash reporting, and email or hosting providers where configured. These providers process data only as needed to provide their services to Kharcho.

Data Retention

Your account and personal tracker data are kept while you use Kharcho. Shared group ledger records remain while the group exists so members can see what was spent and settle balances. Leaving a group does not remove your share of expenses recorded while you were a member. Technical logs and backups follow the applicable service providers' retention periods.

Account Deletion

To request deletion without installing or opening the app, visit the Kharcho account deletion page.

You can delete your account from Profile > Privacy and account in the app. Deletion removes your sign-in account, profile, payment identifiers, messages, notifications, invitations, device tokens, uploaded files, and your own personal tracker. If you created a group with other members, another member becomes its administrator; a group with no other members is removed.

Other members still need the amounts and dates in their shared ledger. Your group expense shares and payments therefore remain under a fresh, anonymous "Deleted member" identifier for each group. Descriptions of expenses you entered are replaced, payment notes involving you are cleared, and your receipts are removed. Amounts you entered in another person's personal tracker also remain without your name or notes. These records are no longer linked to your sign-in account. Some shared content written by other members may still refer to you; email us to request a review of specific content.

Your Choices

You can update your profile and notification preferences in the app. For access, correction, or deletion questions, or if you cannot access your account, contact us at the address below. We will review requests about shared records in light of other members' interests and applicable law.

Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards to protect your information. No online service is perfectly secure, so please use strong passwords and protect access to your devices and accounts.

Children

Kharcho is not intended for children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information, please contact us so we can review and take appropriate action.

Changes

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The updated version will be posted on this page with a new effective date.
